Janyce Hill operates the Vintage Pattern Lending Library (www.vpll.org) with the goal of replicating public domain historic fashion in order to preserve it and to make it accessible to any one who loves the garments of years past.
This year the Library has embarked on the ambitious project to reproduce nearly 150 patterns from the 1912 edition of La Mode Illustree – the premier French fashion journal of it’s time. This project highlighted on many websites and through Theads magazine ( http://www.threadsmagazine.com/item/22260/sew-vintage-with-the-1912-project) has generated interest from all over the world.
Hi, I think I”m ready now whenever I get my pattern. I’ve set up to be able to blog here and I’ve downloaded the free PM software. With the sub-freezing temperatures here, its great to curl up with my laptop and look at all of the patterns speculating on where I would get the fabrics etc if that is the one I’m assigned to recreate. Greatly looking forward to this project and the whole on-line community of sewists who are starting to feel much closer than I would have imagined a “virtual” group could be. This could become my substitute for a sewing group since there are none around my actual geographical location.
Hello,
I am an aquantaince of Gretchen Jacobsen. I have met her and discussed sewing with her on a couple of occasions, not only a reader of her articles.
Are you still looking for volunteers for the 1912 project? I began making a 1911 dress from scratch in January. No pattern at all, just an illustration and description from La Mode. I wish I had known of your library and this project then.
Working from period patterns without instructions is something I have done numerous times. Scaling would be new for me. I haven’t tackled it because I couldn’t find a person or good resource to learn from. Gretchen mentioned you recommended a book for this. If you need volunteers or not, I will be purchasing that book.
I look forward to hearing back from you.
Sincerely,
Michelle Krugman
I enjoy reading about everyones work… Still waiting to receive my patterns… so I can start sewing….
I absolutely love the idea. I’ve emailed you about joining – I do hope I’m not too late!
I am really very confused. I am looking forward to receiving patterns to replicate. I have NEVER blogged and i am very willing to try. My question is, “Do I have to register with wordpress.com in order to add to the vpll blog site?” Please help me untangle my confused state. Thanks…llmsewing
